In the letter to the Hebrews from this weekend’s Mass we are instructed to keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, the leader and perfecter of faith. It is so essential to our faith journey to have a personal relationship with our Lord because we are human beings on the road to perfection but we aren’t there yet. By keeping our eyes, hearts and minds fixed on Jesus, we are given the motivation and the grace to identify those areas in our lives that are most unlike our Lord and to work to bring them in line with the holiness that we are called to. As Jesus tells us in the Gospel, he wants the world to be set on fire. I believe that the fire he speaks about is the love that we have for God in return for his love. We need to be passionate about it. Pope Benedict used to say that whoever comes close to Jesus must be prepared to be burned. Are we smelling the smoke?

The annual Mass at the Lake has become an important and welcome tradition for our parish. It offers the entire parish the opportunity to gather for Mass in honor of the Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows. It marks the beginning of a new year of parish activities: Faith Formation, Commissions, Councils, etc. We will gather at The Sharon Community Center at Lake Massapoag on the front lawn on Sunday, September 18th at 10:30 AM for the Feast Day Mass. Bring a chair or a blanket and food for a picnic lunch after Mass. OLOS will provide cookies and beverages. In case of rain, we will have mass at the church. Please contact Lynn Jacobs at ljacobs@olossharon.org or call 781-784-2265 if you can help set or clean up, and assist with parking.
