On the weekend of June 8 & 9, we will be taking a special collection along with the other parishes in the Archdiocese of Boston to assist those affected by the devastating tornadoes in the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City, as well as other natural disasters in the United States. The funds collected in this one-time special appeal for the 2013 storms and disasters will be utilized to support the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops and Catholic Charities, USA, as they respond to the immediate needs for such necessities as water, food, shelter, and medical care, as well as to the long term need to rebuild after widespread destruction, and to the pastoral and reconstruction needs of the Church. There are special envelopes for this collection in the pews and at the main entrance of the church. Please use these envelopes for this collection and place them in the one parish collection the weekend of June 8 & 9. Checks should be made payable to “Our Lady of Sorrows Parish” with “Natural Disaster Relief” written in the memo section. Thank you in advance for your prayers and support.

Deacon Mike Iwanowicz, ordained in 1976 with the history-making, first group of Permanent Deacons for the Archdiocese of Boston, began his affiliation with Our Lady of Sorrows Parish in 1982 when he and his wife Pat started participating in the life of the parish. This affiliation was strengthened in 1984 when Mike, while assigned to the Archdiocese of Boston's Family Life Apostolate, began serving at various parish liturgical and sacramental celebrations. This led to the Archbishop of Boston assigning Mike as the Permanent Deacon for Our Lady of Sorrows Parish in 1988. This assignment has continued to the present moment. After being associated with the parish for over 30 years and serving as our assigned Permanent Deacon for 25 years, Mike has decided to retire on June 30, 2013.
